What are Smoked Cheez-Its
I discovered this method of making Cheez-Its on a Traeger Facebook group and I’m so glad that I did. If you are a fan of Traeger grills you will want to hop on this recipe right away and add it in to your rotation of delicious smoked snacks.
Basically- Smoked Cheez-Its are crackers coated with some kind of oil or non-stick spray sprinkled with various mixtures of spices andor sauces.
There are so many different variations you can use so it might be a matter of trial and error in figuring out your favorite!
What spices do you use on Smoked Cheez-Its
This is entirely up to you and what you prefer but I have used a few different combinations that we really love. We have made them extra savory, a little spicy and even more on the sweet side. And you’d be surprised at how delicious they are paired with their natural cheesy flavor.

- Traeger Pork & Poultry
- Spiceology Double Smoke
- Ranch Packet mix
- Chili Powder & Honey Granuels
- Cinnamon and Sugar
How long do you smoke Cheez-Its for?
Plan on this smoked treat to take roughly 1-2 hours depending on your smoke preference. I like doing them a little longer so it’s closer to two hours for me.
You will need to stir your crackers every 15-30 minutes along the way, too.
What kind of pellets should I use for Smoked Cheez-Its?
I usually use Cherry or Apple Smoked Pellets but you could also opt for Traeger’s Signature Blend , Mesquite or Hickory, too. You can find pellets online or even at your local Ace Hardware store.
How to make Traeger Smoked Cheez-Its
Here is what you ‘ll need:
- 1 box Cheez-Its- make as many boxes at a time as you’d like- just add seasoning appropriately
- Oil Spray – I like to use Duck Fat but you could also use regular oil spray, avocado spray, or
- Seasonings of your choice- some good options include:
- Traeger Pork & Poultry
- Spiceology Double Smoke
- Ranch Packet mix
- Chili Powder & Honey Granuels
- Cinnamon and Sugar
Instructions:
- Start smoker and set at 225 degrees F.
- Empty Box of Cheez Its into a bowl
- Spray with oil and stir. Do this a few times so that all the crackers have a coating of oil
- Shake your seasoning onto the crackers and stir. You can do a little or as much as you like
- Place on a cookie sheet or a perforated vegetable grilling basket and put in smoker
- Smoke for 1-2 hours (depending on your smoke preference) stirring every 15-30 minutes
- Remove and enjoy!

How to store Smoked Cheez-Its
You will want to transfer your down Smoked Cheez-its into an air tight container as soon as you can. Make sure they are fully cooled down before doing so. A ziploc bag or a Tupperware container will do the trick.
You can also put them straight into a serving bowl if you are taking them to a party or tail gate- just cover with plastic wrap until ready to eat.
These would also be a great teacher or neighbor gift for Christmas or any other birthday or holiday. Simply place in a cellophane bag and tie with string or tulle!
